Base building in No Man’s Sky splits into two activities that barely resemble each other. One is functional: a base is where you put a teleporter, a refiner array, a galactic trade terminal and the extractors that make money while you are not playing. The other is architectural, and it is where the game’s most dedicated players spend hundreds of hours fighting a parts list that was never designed for what they are doing with it.

The functional side rewards a small amount of planning. Power is the usual stumbling block: solar panels need batteries to survive the night, biofuel reactors need feeding, and electromagnetic generators on a Class A or S hotspot are the only genuinely fire-and-forget option. Mineral Extractors and Gas Extractors on hotspots plus Supply Depots turn a base into passive income, and that income scales with hotspot class rather than with how many extractors you bolt on.

The architectural side runs on glitch building — wall clipping, pipe glitching, freighter-part duplication and the other techniques that let parts occupy positions the snapping system forbids. These are exploits of the build system rather than features, which means they change between patches and occasionally break. The guides here cover both halves, plus base computers and boundaries, teleporter networks, farming, terrain editing and the byte beat sequencer.
