Expeditions Guides

Expeditions are No Man’s Sky’s limited-time events, and they work differently from anything else in the game. You start a fresh save on a fixed planet with every other player who started it, follow a route through five or so phases of milestones, and earn rewards that exist nowhere else — ships, multi-tools, companions, jetpack effects, banners and armour sets.

The important structural detail is that expedition progress is separate from your main save but the rewards are not. Anything you unlock can be redeemed on your normal save afterwards from the Quicksilver Synthesis Companion on the Space Anomaly, which means an expedition is additive rather than a detour. You can also convert an existing save into an expedition in some cases, though starting fresh is usually faster.

Missing one is not permanent. Hello Games reruns past expeditions as redux events, usually clustered over the winter holidays and occasionally at other points in the year, and a redux carries the same rewards without consuming a new number in the sequence. There is no published calendar — the in-game Expedition Terminus is the only authority on what is currently live.
