Creatures started as scenery and have become one of the game’s deeper systems. You can scan them for units, tame and ride them, adopt them as companions, breed them through eggs, mutate them with the Egg Sequencer, and now fight them in turn-based battles in the Xeno Arena.
Companions are the substantial half. A tamed creature becomes a permanent follower with its own traits, temperament and genetic profile, and breeding pairs produces eggs whose offspring inherit and drift. Feeding matters — a fed creature will lead you to resources, dig up buried items or produce collectable products — and the Egg Sequencer lets you edit the genetic values directly, which is how the more exotic companions get made. The cap rose to 30 companions with Xeno Arena.
The rest of the category covers the collecting side: rare creature hunting and what actually makes a discovery valuable, fishing across planets and oceans, feeding and milking for creature products, and the Xeno Arena battles themselves, where creatures gained elemental affinities drawn from their species and home world. Fauna discovery remains one of the better early income sources in the game and the one most players stop doing too soon.
